2023 New Sarepta Minor Hockey Association Demolition Derby Rules

The Rules are Designed to help ensure this event is safe and fair for all participants

FULL SIZE CAR RULES

*Station wagons, Sedans or Hardtops are acceptable as full size car**

**NO Chrysler Imperials, Lincoln Continentals, ambulances, convertibles or hearses are allowed**

 

2023 ITEMS YOU MUST DO TO YOUR CAR:

  1. Remove all glass, plastic/metal ornaments, lights and bulbs.  Car must be clean of loose objects and glass. Chrome side trim and hubcaps must be removed. All Trailer hitches, wheel weights, gas tanks must be removed.
  2. Radiator and support must be in stock position and operational.
  3. Battery must be located on the floor on the front of the passenger side of the car. It must be secured and it must be covered. Maximum of 2 batteries per car. Batteries must be contained in a steel container. No plastic or wood containers allowed for the batteries.
  4. You must relocate you gas tank to the back seat of the car and have it securely fastened. Maximum 5 gallons, metal jerrycan/ 20lb propane bottle or steel boat tanks are allowed. Gas Tank must be contained in a steel container and fastened to the floor securely. No plastic or wood containers allowed for fuel tank.
  5. We are NOT allowing any white vehicles. Body of vehicle must be color other than white permitting ONLY the drivers side door to be done with WHITE. Passenger door must also refrain from being white.
  6. All cars must have hoods. Hood and trunk must be fastened down. Chain or 1 ¼” redirod or all thread is maximum size for bolts. Hood hold down bolts cannot be installed ahead of the rad., or in front of the rad. It MUST have 2 bolts in the rear of the hood to fasten down. Sedans may use 4 bolts to the frame, 2 on the hood and 2 on the trunk. Station wagons may only use 2 redirods on the hood. Hood must be fastened in at least 2 places and no more than 4 places. Of these only 2 may be 1 ¼” redirod to the frame. Trunk must be fastened in at least 2 places and no more than 4.  Of these, only 2 may be 1 ¼” redirod to the frame. Washer plate size 5X6” in each location and only on the exterior of the body. All hoods must have a minimum 8” holes on each side of the carb for fire extinguisher accessibility.  Hood and trunk may also be secured by chain.
  7. You must have a suitable air cleaner on your carb.
  8. Drivers and passenger door must be reinforced. All doors must be securely fastened shut by means of strong metal bar or chains (min ¼” thick) with a bolt.  You may use channel iron, I beam or box steel.  The end of bars must be beveled or rounded, maximum length 76” long.  Bolts holding bars to car must go through entire door beam or fender, not just out skin.  Any good-sized washer is allowed.  Bolts must not extrude beyond bars within reason.  Door bar can only extend maximum of 8” ahead of the fender door seam. Pipe, “grader blades”, railway ties or angle iron are NOT acceptable. If the door bar falls off during the race, the car will be disqualified.  Minimum thickness is 3/16 and maximum of 14”.
  9. SEAT BELT/HELMUT/SAFETY GOGGLES/COVERALLS/CLOSED TOED SHOES are MANDATORY!!!
  10. Pole behind drivers seat MANDATORY.
  11. Antifreeze must be removed from radiator (water only) due to soil contamination.
  12. Remove trailer hitches and all mounting components.
  13. Up to 10 ply tires are allowed, this includes fork lift tires up to 10 ply.
  14. Sunroof must be enclosed.

 

NOTE:  HOOD OFF INSPECTION REQUIRED

2023 ITEMS YOU MUST NOT DO TO YOUR CAR:

  1. There is absolutely NO welding to the frame, with exception of the bumper brackets. No seam welding of floor panels. You Cannot pre-weld frame seam joints or the body of the car.   ABSOLUTLEY NO reinforcing of the frame will be tolerated.
  2. NO water coolant system allowed in car and it must be left stock!
  3. Engine and transmission must remain in stock position.
  4. TIRES: No adding or alterations of tires of any kind.
  5. NO tires allowed beyond 10 ply. They must be D.O.T approved. Studded Tires Prohibited. Only inner tube in tires. NO rags, additives etc.
  6. You cannot use any fuel other than pump gas. NO aviation fuels or additives.
  7. Reverse or extended spring shanks are not allowed if this raises the height of the car. NO chains from rear-end to the frame.
  8. EXHAUST-DO NOT remove head pipe! Muffler and tailpipe may be cut off.  Headers through the hood are acceptable.
  9. When repairing damaged cars, you may NO longer use any welding on the frame.
  10. You cannot pre-bolt or weld suspension and/or ball joints or tie rod ends. Steering universal may not be strengthened. There will be NO lowering of center link or idler arm.
  11. You cannot use redi-rod or bolts to fasten bumper to bumper bracket.
  12. NO tilting allowed.
  13. NO swather or industrial tires. 10 play fork lift tires are allowed.
  14. Cages cannot be attached to the frame or the body mount.
  15. Stock differential. No truck differential allowed.

 

 

 

2023 OTHER:

  1. We will allow straps from bumper to rad support.
  2. Maximum of 3-16 stick X 2” wide.
  3. Rim centers allowed. Maximum 8” center.
  4. Flappers are allowed.
  5. Slider drive shafts allowed.
  6. Frame rust repair is permitted with the same thickness as gage of frame. No fish plating. Pictures of before and after repair.

 

2023 TRUCK RULES

SAME RULES AS THE FULL SIZE CARS EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  1. 6X6 plate to hold the box frame. Maximum 4 places in the box with 1 ¼” redi rod or U-bolts to plates.
  2. Tailgates must be chained in 4 places or welded.
  3. Fuel container may be in cab or at the front of the box.
  4. No over size tires, tires must be stock size. Must be no more than 10 ply.
  5. No 4X4 trucks allowed.
  6. Must have stock front and rear bumper.
  7. No Split rims (no even ended ones).
  8. No wooden box floors. Steel boxes only.
  9. No kickers allowed.
  10. Stock rear ends
  11. Antifreeze MUST be removed.

NOTE:  HOOD OFF INSPECTION REQUIRED

 

2023 MID SIZE CAR RULES

SAME RULES AS THE FULL SIZE CARS EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Mid 1990’s or newer.
  2. Wheel base max of 110”long.
  3. Can be 4/6/8 Cylinder.

NOTE:  HOOD OFF INSPECTION REQUIRED
